Preventive care (prophylaxis)

Preventive care treatments remove dental plaque and tartar, and help prevent cavities, gingivitis and periodontitis.

Why is it essential?

Dental plaque is a film of bacteria that forms continuously on the teeth. If it is not removed, it hardens and turns into tartar. Brushing is then no longer enough : only a professional scaling can remove it.

Plaque and tartar are behind the main dental problems :

  • Cavities : bacteria produce acids that gradually weaken the enamel ;

  • Gingivitis : inflammation of the gums (redness, bleeding when brushing), which is reversible if treated ;

  • Periodontitis : damage to the tissues that support the tooth, including the bone. If left untreated, it can lead to loose teeth and tooth loss.

Regular preventive care reduces these risks.
